工作坊目标:
- 理解申请文书在美国大学综合评审体系中的核心作用
- 明确文书在展示个人特质、思维方式与成长轨迹中的独特价值
- 学会从招生官视角理解“什么样的文书真正有效”
- 深度挖掘个人经历、背景与思考,将生活体验转化为有意义的写作素材
- 建立清晰、可持续使用的美本文书构思与写作框架和手稿
- 得到一对一的指导和修改意见
课前准备:
- 头脑风暴并列出至少10项对自己有重要意义的经历、兴趣或人生片段(包括校内与校外)
- 熟悉当年度 Common Application 主文书题目
- 了解 Common Application 申请平台的基本结构与使用方式
- 阅读所有课前指定材料

U.S. College Application Essay Writing Workshop
Sample Three-Day Program Agenda
Program Overview
This two-day essay workshop is designed to guide students through the full process of developing a compelling U.S. college application essay, from idea generation to a complete rough draft. Through lectures, guided practice, peer discussion, and individualized feedback, students learn how to craft an essay that authentically represents who they are and how they think.
Before the Workshop
Students are asked to complete the following in advance:
- Brainstorm a list of at least 10 meaningful experiences, interests, or moments from both in and out of school
- Review the current Common Application essay prompts
- Familiarize themselves with the Common Application platform
- Read all assigned pre-workshop materials
Logistics:
- Students should bring laptops
- Brainstorming worksheets, outlining templates, and sample essays will be provided in print
Day 1: Foundations, Brainstorming, and Drafting

Session 1: Understanding the Role of the Essay
- Welcome and program overview
- The role of the personal essay in U.S. holistic admissions
- What makes an effective college application essay (including supplements)
- Group analysis of sample essays
- Differences between U.S. and Chinese academic/personal writing styles

- Guided brainstorming using structured worksheets
- Identifying meaningful experiences, themes, and “throughlines”
- Developing a preliminary essay outline

Session 3: From Outline to Draft

- Group discussion and instructor feedback
- Independent writing time: transforming outlines into a rough draft
- Support from instructors and tutors during drafting
