Dr. Xiaofeng Wan was the first China-born associate dean of admission and the international admission lead at Amherst College, one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in the United States. He is the author of two bestsellers, Congratulations! You Are Accepted, an autobiography, published in April 2025, and a national #1 bestseller, a Mandarin translation of Admission Matters, for five consecutive years.
He has been interviewed and quoted by numerous international media outlets, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, BBC, The Economist, AFP, The Straits Times, and CGTN, among others. He has published columns on major industry outlets, including Inside Higher Ed, University World News, and International Higher Education. He earned both his master's and doctoral degrees from Boston College, where his research focused on international student mobility, particularly Chinese student mobility trends to the United States.

College Counseling for Top Scholars

We advise a small cohort of graduating top scholars at each partner high school to ensure that they submit the most compelling applications to achieve best possible admission results. Our advising is on a one-on-one basis and covers all aspects of the admission process.
In addition to advising top scholars, we offer a set number of hours that can be used by any student in need.

Parents play a pivotal role in their children's college application processes. The level of knowledge that parents have about college admissions in the United States can have a significant impact on school-based college counseling. Our educational philosophy is aligned with that of our partner high schools. We will work with you to produce better-informed parents on all aspects of college counseling.

Recommendation Letter Writing and Mock Application Workshop for Counselors and Teachers

Recommendation letters from school-based college counselors and teachers are critical to a student's successful admission to highly selective colleges. We provide targeted and culturally sensitive training for counselors and teachers to ensure that they compose the most effective letters of recommendation for all of their students.
Additionally, we will host mock application workshops for counselors seeking a deeper understanding of the holistic review and committee-based decision-making processes at highly selective colleges in the United States.

Essay Workshops

Good writing is good thinking. Our writing workshops, hosted in China every summer in person (virtual sessions available too), combine fundamental writing skills and specific training on how to write an effective college application essay. Dr. Wan and his writing coaches will lead these sessions to provide your students with world-class instructions and guide students to produce tangible writing samples.
